THOMPSON - Friday night Doug Coby of Milford finished third in the Valenti Modified Racing Series event at Stafford Motor Speedway.
It seems the speed he had at Stafford has followed him to Thompson International Speedway for today's UNOH Showdown qualifying day.
Coby, a regular on the Whelen Modified Tour, got around the five-eighths mile Thompson oval in 18.664 seconds (120.553 mph).
Coby was second in the division's most previous event Sunday at Delaware (Ontario) Speedway in Canada.
The Whelen Modified Tour and Whelen Southern Modified Tour will each run 125-lap events on Sunday at Thompson. Qualifying for both divisions is this afternoon.
