Back In The Hunt: Tony Stewart Brings New Optimism To Sprint Cup Sylvania 300 At New Hampshire Motor Speedway

LOUDON, N.H. - It was just about a month ago that it seemed Tony Stewart was ready to say thanks but no thanks to NASCAR when it came to one of the coveted slots in the Sprint Cup Series Chase for the Championship field.

After a season of relative mediocrity on the track, Stewart said on Aug. 22 that his team would be wasting one of the 12 Chase for the Championship spots if they qualified for it.
"At this point of the deal, if we are going to run this bad, it really doesn't matter whether we make the Chase or not because we are going to be occupying a spot in the Chase that somebody else that actually can run for a championship is going to be trying to take because our stuff is so bad right now," Stewart said after finishing ninth in the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 21.
