All over the Speedbowl Saturday were dedications to Rogers, from decals on racecars to the t-shirts worn by many of the fans on hand.
Before the start of features, track announcer Matt Buckler led a tribute to Rogers on the frontstretch led by a moment of silence.

Quotations of the Year
“We’ve got a lot of racing left, but when we’re winning at places we’re not supposed to, you better watch out.” – Jimmie Johnson, after winning the Food City 500 at Bristol.
“I like Jimmie as good as anybody, but for the sake of the sport, one of the two of us (Harvick, Hamlin) needs to make something happen.” – Kevin Harvick, during the Chase.
“Two tires won the race, but when you’ve got two tires in dirty air, it’s no good.” – Dale Earnhardt Jr., after finishing eighth in the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas.
“The ‘48’ (Johnson) is testing my patience. I’m hard to get mad, and I’m (ticked) off.” – Jeff Gordon, after the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega.
“If we’d have kept those guys a lap down, that would’ve been selfish.” – Dave Rogers, winning crew chief, on allowing a mass ‘wave-around” during an early caution period in the Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond.
“When you play at home, that’s when you want to win the most.” – Tony Stewart, from Columbus, Ind., at Indianapolis.
“He's real aggressive. That's cool, but when he starts affecting me with his aggressiveness … I just will not put up with it. I've been around here long enough. I just will not tolerate it.” – Jeff Burton, referring to Kyle Busch, after Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte.
“There’s just a pit that develops in your stomach and doesn’t go away. It’s the championship pit, and it’s there.” – Jimmie Johnson.
“Points? I chipped away, but I didn’t chip away much.” – Kyle Busch, after a fourth at Martinsville.
“In the World Series, when a pitcher’s not doing his job, they put another one in that can.” – Johnson, referring to pit-crew swap at Texas.
“I wonder if anyone else will ever win five of these things in a row, but next year we’re going for six, so away we go.” – owner Rick Hendrick, after Johnson extended his consecutive championships.
“I won't turn on the television, watch any racing. Remove myself from it. I know what I need to do, what my team has to do. I don't want to hear what anybody else has to say.” – Johnson, before the final race.
“I don’t know if part of that is coincidence, or just that those guys who win championships are really good. I don’t know, but it isa difficult race track. You have to do everything right.” – Matt Kenseth, noting the overlap of Indy winners and Cup champions.
“Bristol is a lot like Watkins Glen. You never know what’s going to happen.” – Harvick, naming one thing the two have in common.
“We have a way of forgetting the way history really was. … I think we tend to forget that even the great race teams go through struggles.” – Jeff Burton.
“If I sat down and planned it, we would win every Chase race and I would win the championship. But plans don’t quite work like that.” – Kyle Busch, whose Chase struggles continued.
“Mathematically, it’s possible. Realistically, I don’t think so.” – Jeff Gordon, asked about the possibility of a driver winning the Chase without winning any races.
“There’s a lot of psychology that goes into racing, but all of that goes out the window once the race starts.” – Carl Edwards
“If you get in a problem (at Martinsville), it’s normally because you are a root of it.” –Stewart
“It’s amazing what the Chase format does to the nerves and to the teams and the drivers.” – Kurt Busch
“If the roles were reversed, I would be saying the same thing. As a competitor, you’re tired of the same guy winning. I guess I understand where they’re coming from and what they’re saying … I don’t necessarily agree with it. I think it would be great for someone to win five straight.” – Johnson, who did.

Leader?s Schmeder?s or Leaderhosen?
So I couldn?t resist the Leaderhosen quip, as it occurred to me, as I spent the Versus IndyCar Central Showtime purusing le Internetz instead... Needing a break from duh BoobTube... How apparently this wasn?t the weekend to be starting on the Pole ? ShuhZamm! Lookie ?Dar NO Princess jokes following my Pole remark, eh? Oh Never Mind!
Thus in an Der Wienersnitzel OVER-dosage de Motorsporten; Ja Ja! I noticed the following traits from my ?Mega View-Athon of motor racing, as first up; ?Master Zebb (Vettel) who started from Pole for the third race in-a-row was defeated by ?Louise JAGUAR? Hamilton, who?d started the Shanghai event from P3.
Then I watched my very first Versus Indy Lights race ? where NOT one, but two leader?s crashed out all on their own - Peter Dempsey, (P2) and Josef Newgarden (P3) respectively, as fourth place starter Conor Daly led Pole-sitter and Sam Schmidt Motorsports teammate Esteban Guerrieri home in a 1-2 finish.
Thus, the stage was set for Will Power?s demise... As I was personally rootin? for Ryan Briscoe, who after his shearing at the Barber?s last week, I worried ?bout his continued tenure at Penske Racing... Although obviously I couldn?t predict that ?HULIO would take out Power for the second time; Can you say Edmonton?
Thus it was thoroughly refreshing to witness Mike Conway?s debutant win in the Indy Cars, as the Englishman had rolled off P3 after coming outta NOWHERE to advance to the Fast Six Shootout after being mired down in 16th during practice...
Meanwhile, earlier during the broadcast, I flipped over to FOX Just-in-Time to see Jimmy Johnson win the days outing at Talladega, Hmm? I?m sensing a pattern here, as wasn?t Jeff ?Pretty Boy-Floyd? Gordon the Pole-sitter? As Johnson started from alongside Gordon on the outside of Row-1 (P2) while Mark Martin was third and Dale IronHead Junior Earnhart Jr. was fourth... Just the third time ever in RASSCAR history a team has locked-out the grid?s first two rows, the last time being in Fontana, CA by The Cat in the Hat?s (Jack Roush) crew.
Then during the countless commercial breaks during the IndyCar race, I flipped over to SPEED to see Carlos ?THE BULL? Checa lose both rounds of this weekend?s World Superbikes action at Assen TT, in the Netherlands... As Checa settled for third in race-1 and runner-up in race-2...
So I guess that?s why they run the races, eh? As apparently the Pole winner doesn?t always win the race...

Ted Christopher Bounces Back From Saturday Wreck To Win SK Modified Feature Sunday At Thompson Speedway
THOMPSON - Dealing with the effects of an injured right hand was only one of the worries for Ted Christopher following Saturday's NASCAR Whelen All-American SK Modified feature at Thompson International Speedway.
Saturday, two cars racing at the rear of the SK Modified feature field at Thompson took out Christopher and Woody Pitkat as they battled for the top spot with less than two laps remaining.
It left Christopher with a bent racecar and soured optimism for Sunday's follow-up 25-lap feature. But Christopher's Jimmie Paige owned race team spent the evening hours Saturday and into the morning Sunday doing their best to straighten out a mangled rear end on the Modified.

On June 28th at Stafford Motor Speedway, the legendary Modified driver will take part in the track's first CarQuest Champions for Charity race.
Drivers in the race will compete behind the wheel Senior Outlaw Go-Karts and Potter isn't fooling around when it comes to making sure he's ready to be competitive when the field takes the green flag in the event, which is part of the racing card for Stafford Motor Speedway's Xtreme Tuesday event.
"I've got to talk to some people about getting some practice time with a kart on a Monday night at Stafford," Potter said. "I know those things have a lot quicker steering than a Modified did, I need to be ready."

Soured Relationship With Longtime Owner Sends Woody Pitkat To New SK Modified At Stafford Motor Speedway
THOMPSON - When the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified division hits the track for the Spring Sizzler April 30 and May 1 at Stafford Motor Speedway, one of the most successful drivers in the division over the last few years will be sporting a new number and new colors.
Woody Pitkat won't be behind the wheel of the familiar No. 52 SK Modified that he has piloted for the Rowe Family since the 2005 season, and the split was hardly amicable according to Pitkat.
Instead of driving for team owner Tim Rowe this season at Stafford, Pitkat will instead drive the No. 89 SK Modified for owner Bob Hitchcock.
"I've had enough of [Tim Rowe] and his [expletive] from his mouth," Pitkat said. "I tried to talk to him over the winter for two or three months. He finally called me back. He cried poverty, said he lost a bunch of money from the Davidson Company and lost a bunch of money from TSI [Harley-Davidson].

NASCAR highs and lows of 2010
Most improved driver: “Flame On” Harvick. Least improved auto manufacturer: Ford.
HIGH: Jimmie Johnson won a record fifth consecutive Sprint Cup championship, which is even more impressive in that no one else in the sport’s history as won more than three.
LOW: The exhortation of NASCAR vice president Robin Pemberton – “Have at it, boys” – proved to be emblematic of the season that followed. An on-track feud between drivers Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski boiled over in both the Cup and Nationwide Series. No one was hurt, but the crashes were scary and obviously intentional.
* * *
HIGH: Denny Hamlin’s run for the championship was inspirational and heartbreaking. Hamlin persevered in spite of a knee injury that required surgery … while he continued to race. He led Johnson by 33 points with two races remaining – and won two more races -- but wound up losing the championship by 39.
LOW: Dale Earnhardt Jr. continued to struggle. Ninety-three races have passed since his most recent victory. He will begin his fourth season at Hendrick Motorsports with his third crew chief, Steve Letarte. (A fourth, Brian Whitesell, just took the reins for one race.) He finished 21st in the standings and collected only three top-five finishes.
* * *
HIGH: Another driver who didn’t qualify for the Chase won the season’s two most prestigious races. Jamie McMurray captured both the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.
LOW: Upset at being criticized, NASCAR officials tried to fine two drivers, Hamlin and Ryan Newman, in secrecy. Naturally, word leaked out, leading some to wonder what else the ruling body was hiding.
* * *
HIGH: The season’s two races at Talladega Superspeedway produced a total of 175 lead changes. The individual numbers were 88 and 87, the two highest such totals in the sport’s history.
LOW: Two of the sport’s more dignified drivers, Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton, exchanged blows after Burton inexplicably wrecked Gordon’s Chevy under a caution flag at Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 7. It’s difficult to buy Burton’s explanation that he didn’t mean to do it on purpose.
* * *
HIGH: The Raybestos Rookie of the Year in the Camping World Truck Series, Austin Dillon, actually won two races.
LOW: The rookie of the year in Cup, Kevin Conway, never finished higher than 14th and was 35th in the point standings.
* * *
HIGH: The most improved performance came from Kevin Harvick, who improved his average finish from 19.9 in 2009 to 8.7 in 2010. Under the point system in place prior to 2004, Harvick would have finished the season with 295 points more than any other driver.
LOW: Even though three of its drivers made the Chase, and Edwards won the season’s final two races, Ford’s NASCAR program still had a disappointing year. Chevys won 18 Cup races, and Toyotas won 12. Fords won four, and Dodge’s one-team, three-car effort claimed two.

Podium for Vettel in Australia
Sebastian Vettel once again proved that he is a champion by winning the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday 27 March 2011. In 2010 he became F1 world champion, and together with Mark Webber, his team mate, he assisted in securing the Constructors Championships for the Red Bull team. Born in Germany on 3 July 1987, he was the youngest runner up in 2009 when Jenson Button won the title. Now it seems that his flawless driving and natural talent is putting him back into contention for winning the 2011 Formula One season.

I think ?Dat ?Juan?s already taken, albeit I think the latest Subweighz $5 FootLonger?s for February is over??? Try sayin ?Dat FAST 5-times, eh? But I digress... As back to the meat in duh Sandwich. And as much as I like the guy, I just really cannot see who he would drive for; Hmm? Perhaps with Panther Racing as Captain America as his Wingman? Although certainly NOT The Captain ? as I think Pastrana?s a little too WILD for somebody who?s as buttoned down as Roger! (NOT to mention having nearly ZERO Ovaltrack or single seater experience...)
Thus I?m gonna throw a different high wire act?s name into the mix. As in the ?GOAT;? NASCAR?s big, but not that big, here
Will Denny Hamlin join the Miami posse of Lebron James? The opposite is unlikely.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – It’s all about the South down here. No drawls. No plantations (well, there is a city near here called Plantation). But there’s South Beach, and the geography is unmistakable. Homestead-Miami Speedway may not be Southern but it’s as south as the United States of America gets.
NASCAR takes its traveling show to most parts of the country, but it doesn’t get much glitzier than this. Juan Pablo Montoya held his annual South Beach gala – or soiree or extravaganza, or whatever – on Thursday night.
In other big news, Denny Hamlin met LeBron James.
“It was just at our hotel, basically,” said the Sprint Cup point leader. “One of the guys that I know, that works at the hotel, asked if I cared to meet him, and I said, ‘Of course. Sure.’ I just briefly talked to him for just a second. It really wasn’t anything too big. Obviously, he’s one of the most interesting guys of the past year, so it was good to experience that.”
Asked if the NBA star knew anything about NASCAR, Hamlin said not too much.
“He’s heard of it. I don’t know,” said Hamlin. “I really didn’t ask him too much about to be honest with you. I got to thinking, though, I was sitting there and looking around and the scene around him, and what-not, and I was thinking, why in the world would he leave Cleveland for this?”
It may have been a bit like the time Red Grange visited the White House. Grange was introduced to Pres. Calvin Coolidge, who was told, “This is Red Grange of the Chicago Bears,” and the president replied, “I’ve always enjoyed animal acts.”
NASCAR is known here. Every Chase has ended here, not to mention the seasons of 2002-03 before there was a Chase. NASCAR holds its grand finale in a city made famous at various times by Jackie Gleason, Tony Montana and Dan Marino. It’s going to take at least a Montoya championship to make NASCAR a household name.
Or maybe Hamlin can win the championship and thus earn a place in LeBron’s posse.

So while I?m attempting to cope with the dreaded jetRAGG associated with the whims of circumnavigating the globe... YAWN! I think ?Dat ?Juan?s already taken, albeit I think the latest Subweighz $5 FootLonger?s for February is over??? Try sayin ?Dat FAST 5-times, eh? But I digress... As back to the meat in duh Sandwich. Ricky Carmichael Although this made-for-TV Docudrama is perfectly suited for an encore episode of Travis Pastrana?s Nitro Circus, as I could see Travis Base Jumpin? off the Stratosphere or doing ?Juan O his patented NO parachute jumps into LVMS.
NASCAR Notebook: Johnson ?qualified? to win
Four-time and defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has cameras follow his every move in the garage during practice Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. for Sunday's Ford 400. Johnson qualified sixth, well ahead of Kevin Harvick (28th) and Denny Hamlin (37th). (Photo: Getty Images)
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – For the two contenders seeking to deprive Jimmie Johnson of a fifth straight Sprint Cup championship, qualifying was no cause for celebration.
Johnson qualified sixth at176.482 mph. It was a nice solid run, leaving him well situated for the start of Sunday’s Ford 400.
Kevin Harvick qualified 28th, which wasn’t that unusual. Denny Hamlin qualified 37th, which was. Hamlin’s previous low in qualifying was 34th at Auto Club Speedway on Oct. 8. On the positive side, Hamlin did manage to salvage top-10 finishes in each of his previous qualifying performances that were 30th or worse, and he won after starting 30th just two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway.
A poor qualifying performance is also a poor predictor of race-day success, but starting deep in the field adds a certain amount of pressure to an already overheated championship battle.
Johnson held a press conference before qualifying, but what he said seemed pertinent: “I slept great. I don’t know if Denny (Hamlin) did, but I know I did.”
Hamlin’s response? “I feel the same as I do every week. No, I’m never uptight.”

SPEECHLESS--If Foster Gillett meant to quiet rumors regarding the future of Richard Petty Motorsports, this wasn’t the way to do it.
Gillett, whose father George is the official owner of the team that carries the seven-time champion’s name, was at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday. His presence spread quickly, but he refused to responded to any questions posed by media members.
Rumors have the team going out of business, going out of business temporarily while other investors are acquired and being sunk by the reputed mountain of indebtedness faced by the Gillett family.
Foster Gillett’s presence reportedly did nothing to allay fears among team members that their jobs are endangered.

STEWART’S TAKE-- Tony Stewart is the only driver who has won championships under both the “season-long” and current “Chase” format. Long relegated to the nether regions of the Chase field, Stewart offered his analysis of the three-way battle for the title.
“I think they’re all playing mind games with each other,” he said. “You don’t get this far in the season and be in this position by racing guys dirty. I don’t see it coming down to the last race with guys racing each other dirty.”
* * *
TITLE MAY GO THROUGH HIM--As expected, Carl Edwards established himself as a contender to win the race. He ended a 70-race winless streak last week at Phoenix and qualified second. Edwards won this race in 2008 and has finished eighth or better in five straight races at Homestead.
Referring to Hamlin, Johnson and Harvick, Edwards said, “They’re all going to be aggressive. That’s the way it’s going to be, no matter what they say. That’s how they got in the position they’re in, and now it’s going to be a great race for everyone to watch.
“I hope I’m watching the whole thing in my rear-view mirror, though.”

Late Race Wreck Gives Todd Ceravolo An SK Modified Victory At Thompson International Speedway
THOMPSON - Over the years late race bad luck has stolen more than a few victories away from Todd Ceravolo, so the Gales Ferry driver wasn't feeling any guilt at all after pulling into victory lane at Thompson International Speedway Saturday.
After the top two cars of Woody Pitkat and Ted Christopher were wiped out in a wreck caused by backmarkers in the field with less than two laps remaining, Ceravolo inherited the lead and drove to victory in the 25-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Saturday at Thompson.
"It's unfortunate because Ted had a real good car and so did Woody and I inherited the win," Ceravolo said. "So, they don't give them back to me when I lose them like that, so I'll take it. We had a good car, just not the best car."

This year ? the Chase works
Chase contenders Denny Hamlin, Jimmy Johnson and Kevin Harvick during a Champions press conference on Friday. (Photo: Getty Images)
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Let the best man win. Let the fastest car win. Here’s hoping they’re the same.
Grant the serenity not to have to muddy the Sprint Cup waters with leaking oil or litter them with debris. Here’s hoping no one’s title hopes run out of gas … literally.
Even though “ABC’s Wide World of Sports” is but a memory, it would be nostalgic to have the Ford 400 decided amid “the human drama of athletic competition.” What’s more important than who wins is how he wins it.
In an incredible development, given the slings and arrows of the Chase format, the three drivers who are still in contention – at Homestead-Miami Speedway, in the final race, with a 46-point blanket over them – are the three who deserve to be there.
If there were no Chase – and the points awarded in each race the same as now – Kevin Harvick would lead by 295 points. Of course, there is a Chase.
The driver with the most victories is Denny Hamlin.
The driver with four straight championships is Jimmie Johnson.
Chase or no Chase, they would be the top three now, though in different order. If the true goal of the Chase is to tighten, but not otherwise alter, the course of the season, then this Chase is the one that exemplifies the format. Even those who dislike the Chase – they’re out there – should be willing to concede that this is just about as good as the format, however flawed, gets.
If everything works out perfectly today, NASCAR will have a difficult time justifying further changes, even though NASCAR chairman Brian France has been floating trial balloons on the subject since July.
They’ll probably “tweak it” a little – France and his minions love that word – just to save face.
France was still pumping hot air – perhaps not quite as hot as before – into the balloon as recently as Friday.
The results of the current season, he said, demonstrate that “the more we can do, to have incentives ? an incentive basis -- to decide this championship, that puts it all on the line more often. That's what we need to be thinking about.”
Oh, yeah. “Take paradise and … put up a parking lot.”

As reportedly the Island?s undulating, bumpy surface has always suited the ?DUCs (Ducati?s) favourably. My notes were somewhat scattered ? scribbling furiously during the ?Mega commercial breaks... Noting that the day?s first race started off upon a damp, but drying track ? with a terminal velocity of 312kph being clocked ? as Steve ?Wild ?N Crazy? Martin noted that those are Monza style trap speeds ? but we?re at Phillip Island! As Massimiliano ("Max") Biaggi put an exclamation point upon this by ripping off a ?Mega 321kph down the straight, which is just a skosh under 200mph. (199.34mph) CRIKEYS MATES! That?s blistering fast, as Biaggi would use the Aprilia?s superior straight-line speed to mess about with a resurgent Marko Melandri; but I?m jumping the gun a wee bit here. Thus it was ?The Bull motoring away from the pack and simply playing Hide ?N Seek after dispatching the momentarily surprising leader Eugene Laverty; as the Irishman was making his WSBK debut ? riding for the ?YamaHopper Factory Sterilgarda Team. As Laverty, who finished runner-up in World Supersport in 2009-10 had a fantastic battle with his teammate Marco Melandri, with the two riders swapping fourth place back ?N forth before Eugene nipped Marco at the stripe.Yet Checa steadily pulled away to nearly a 6-second advantage (5.85) ahead of Max Biaggi and Leon Haslam ? now riding for the BMW Factory team, occupied the final two steps of the Round-1 podium...Unawares of their respective ages, it was funny hearing Jonathan Green pointing out that Checa?s 38 and Biaggi?s 39; quipping that perhaps 40 is the new 23! As the riders behind this elder duo were all members of the 20-something Brat-pack...And I was pleasantly surprised to hear ?Nitro Nori (Noriyuki) Haga receive a shout-out during Round-1 and thus is still in the field, albeit somewhat surprised to learn that the Japanese rider is now aboard the Privateer Pata Aprilia WSBK Team?s Aprilia RSV4R; reportedly the exact same 2010-spec ?Scooter that reigning Champion Max Biaggi rode last year...The second race was more of the same up-front, as once again Checa sped away from the field, yet there was a most entertaining good ?Ol Donnybrook going on for P2 between Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri. And although Melandri did manage to overtake his fellow Italian, Biaggi?s Aprilia?s terminal velocity was simply too great for Marco to overcome. As the elder Italian routinely slipstreamed the Yamaha with blasts between 319-321kph as Biaggi ultimately finished second with Melandri settling for third place.Honda?s Jonathan Rea finished fourth with Leon Haslam rounding out the Top-5 positions in Round-2. Noriyuki Haga finished ninth & seventh in the first two rounds respectively, while Eugene Laverty dropped to a disappointing 15th in Round-2, as I?ve got NO idea what happened? And while I?m sad that it?ll be a whole month between races, and I?ll miss hearing Messer Greene?s enthusiastic race calls alongside ?The Chiller,? nee Steve Martin ? who tries keeping Green from frothing over during the broadcasts... Nevertheless, I?m extremely happy to know that Donington Park has returned to racing status after some Gillette Dude tried giving the venue a close shave, Err more likely a bunch ?O nicks and cuts! Ok, the track needed a massive tourniquet applied to it... So it?s very good news that the track has survived and is back in business!Donington gets green lightMeanwhile, NO word on where ?Ol shakey Byrne disappeared too... Anybody out there know?
