For the last two seasons Nichole Morgillo has gone to the racetrack feeling like she has to defend her place as a female driver in the top weekly division in the state's short track competition.
Saturday she will go to the Waterford Speedbowl looking not to defend that she belongs, but rather trying to defend her spot as the top driver in the standings.
After three events this season Morgillo is tied for the points lead in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified division at Waterford. Morgillo, of Yalesville, shares the top spot in the standings with defending Whelen All-American Series national champion Keith Rocco, who won the division championship at Waterford last year.
